With the most diverse and largest number of fossils and remains the La Brea Tar Pits is home to over 3.5 million Ice Age fossils of more than 600 species. The site contained remains of a mammoth named Zed, giant sloths, sabertooth cats, and American lions. The extinct animals discovered at La Brea Tar Pits were trapped in the asphalt between 11,000 to 50,000 years ago.
