The average cost of living in Canada is about CAD 12,000 to CAD 20,000 per year (7.46 lakhs to 12.44 lakhs).

This totals CAD 33,000 to CAD 51,600 (20.53 lakhs to 32.11 lakhs) annually. Now, these costs multiply by two or three depending if you are pursuing a 2-year degree course or a 3-year degree course. GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate)

Having a GIC Account when studying in Canada is a great option to secure your funds and adjust your living expenses. Students can open this account with one of the partnered banks (Nova Scotia Bank, ICICI Canada, SBI Canada Bank, or CIBC) with an amount of CAD 10,000 (INR 6.22 lakhs).

On arriving in Canada, students are given CAD 2,000 (INR 1.24 lakhs) immediately and CAD 8,000 (4.97 lakhs) monthly for 12 months to cover their living expenses.

Note: Banks deduct approximately CAD 200 (INR 12,500) as administrative fees and the amount you receive on arrival depends on the bank you open a GIC Account with.

Application Fee (University and Visa)

Applying to different universities involves filling out application forms. These universities charge between CAD 50- and CAD 250 (INR 3100- 15,500). These fees are non-refundable even if you are not selected.

Application for Study Permit

The cost of application for a study permit is CAD 150 (INR 9335). Other fees of up to CAD 90 (INR 5600) are there for biometrics like photographs and fingerprints.
